About Me
My name is Tim McDermott, and I am a clinical neuroscientist researching novel treatments for adults with depression, anxiety, or PTSD. My research approach uses neuroscience methods to guide psychotherapy treatment, including using neuromodulation as an augmentation strategy. I am also a licensed psychologist specializing in cognitive behavioral therapy. My prior research used the following methods: fMRI, EEG, MEG, tDCS, rtfMRI-nf, and temporal interference. My current research uses EEG/fMRI to study and tACS/TMS to treat anhedonia in the Riddle Lab at Florida State University where I am the Dean’s Postdoctoral Scholar under the mentorship of Dr. Justin Riddle. I am also the Clinical Assistant Director of Dr. Brad Schmidt’s Anxiety and Behavioral Health Clinic at Florida State University.
Before joining the Florida State University Psychology Department, I was an NIMH F32 Postdoctoral Fellow at Emory University School of Medicine with Dr. Negar Fani and was co-mentored by Dr. Greg Siegle. I received my Clinical Psychology PhD at the University of Tulsa and the Laureate Institute for Brain Research. I was in Dr. Robin Aupperle’s Lab as an NIMH F31 Predoctoral Fellow with Dr. Martin Paulus serving as my Primary Sponsor. I completed my pre-doctoral internship at McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School on the PTSD Track under the mentorship of Dr. Antonia Seligowski and Dr. Kerry Ressler. Before graduate school, I was a research assistant/lab coordinator at the University of Nebraska Medical Center/Creighton University in the laboratories of Dr. Tony Wilson and Dr. Amy Badura Brack.
